Record Review: Abandon All Ships – “Geeving”

Abandon All Ships debut studio album, Geeving, is a contorted mix of hardcore metal and techno flashbacks that are produced in harmonious precision. While many bands attempt to purposely utilize the combination of heavy music and melodic hymns for commercial satisfaction, this Toronto-based band uses the two genres to perfection.

The presentation of “Megawhacko 2.1” as a dual between the techno-savvy Marin Broda and the raw screaming vocals of Angelo Aita gives a direct example of the versatility of this young band. Their affinity for speed metal is obvious in the opening track and creative programming in “Heaven” offer a glimpse into the diverse world of the band’s musical flexibility.

If Geeving was intended to raise eyebrows and make a statement about how and what Abandon All Ships is all aboutmissio, then mission accomplished to the fullest.
