Trap Music isn’t just the name of rapper T.I’s 2003 sophomore release. This musical genre traces its roots to early nineties southern hip hop. Cities like Atlanta and Memphis nurtured the style, eventually having it transcend regional boundaries. Artists like UGK, Three 6 Mafia and Master P were the category’s pioneers. New Wax reporter Tarick Glancy takes a look at the history of trap music and where it’s heading.
