Toronto music producer, Matthew Burnett is making some serious noise in the Hip Hop/R&B world. After teaming up with Boi-1da, Matthew has had the opportunity to work with big names like Drake, Jay Z, Lil Wayne, and Eminem. His work with Eminem got him a Grammy nomination and the pleasure of being apart of a diamond selling single! New Wax reporter Kapil Ghai sat down with the music producer to talk about his journey and where he is headed next with his producing career.

This week’s artist spotlight is on the  one of the best, and most innovative jazz bands in Canada,”Midcoast.” The band’s unique sound combines influences ranging from the likes of Radiohead to the renown, Charlie Parker. New Wax reporter Anton Sardelich finds out how their influences have helped shape the unique sound of their new EP The Montreal Sessions.

Toronto is a city with a growing urban music scene that is catching more and more attention day by day. With a city full of so much talent, Michael Asante has taken it upon himself to create a platform for emerging talent, providing them with an opportunity to showcase their gift to the rest of the world. New Wax reporter Kapil Ghai, had the opportunity to speak to Michael about his current ventures and how he plans to help emerging talent get some exposure.

Working in the music industry over the last few years, Savvie  has helped establish a number of emerging Canadian artists. With her experience at BC Music and formal musical education she’s now taken the next step in her music career. New Wax reporter Anthony Salemi recently spoke with Savvie about her debut release album, Night Eyes, as well as, what lies ahead for the young artist.

Recently winning Rap Recording of the Year at the Junos, Adam Bomb’s been called one of the greatest Canadian M.C’s of all time by the CBC. Bomb’s grooves are raw and gritty and he’s a supremely gifted storyteller who lyrics celebrate the struggles of everyday people. New Wax reporter Victor Otrovsky chats with Bomb about what its like to be a new MC coming up in the underground rap scene and his new self-titled mixtape with the group.

 Over the years Montreal has been known for it’s intense punk scene and this week’s artist spotlight is on Montreal four piece The East End Radicals. Simply put, this band is realistic. Their music isn’t just “mindless entertainment” as they would put it. Their goal is to craft songs engaging the listener, while striking the chord of social justice. New wax reporter Izabella Sokolowska had the opportunity to sit down with Scott McLeod of the band and further delve into their psyche.

Armed with dedicated labels and supportive venues, not to mention an overabundance of talent, Toronto punk is ready to conquer the world. This week’s artist spotlight is on Vaz.  Born and raised in London England, Vaz moved to Toronto in 2008 after getting his degree in Economics Business and Finance.  In 2012 Vaz quit his banking job to pursue his music career full time.   While playing music since the age of ten Vaz claims that it has always been his passion and his main channel of self expression.  Our reported Zemina Meiji met up with Vaz to discuss his art and career path.

Toronto’s Weaves was formed by a union between singer Jasmyn Burke and Morgan Waters. The band has a unique off kilter, yet catchy, sound that blends a wide variety of genres around Burke’s distinct R&B vocal style. Weaves have recently released a self-titled EP and three highly creative music videos that have been steadily generating internet buzz. New Wax correspondent Thomas Millband recently spoke with Burke.
