While growing up in GTA, Be embraced her passion for music. After graduating high school in 2007, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in music. While living in L.A., Marquis had the opportunity to work with pop artist Ke$ha and songwriter Robert Alan. After leaving L.A. and heading back home to the GTA, Marquis has had the opportunity to perform at Canada’s Walk of Fame, Wekfest and Honey Jam. In addition to her budding career as an artist, Marquis studied Entertainment Business Management at Metalworks Institute. New Wax reporter Stacy McLean caught up with the multi-faceted artist to go in-depth about her experiences, and find out what’s next.

New Wax reporter Kevin Akwamuzor interviews Toronto artist E-Carter, A local Toronto rapper who grew up in the Caribbean and has a dream to be in the major leagues. E carter is an artist who is willing to go above and beyond for the sake of music. He strongly believes in the power music has to influence others and wishes to make music that will last for ages.

Our very own Tarick Glancy caught up with Kes Defenthaller from “Kes the Band,” of one of the hottest soca groups to come out of Trinidad and Tobago. This year Kes The Band celebrates ten years in the soca game and have many hit songs over their career. The band was recently in Toronto, playing the very last show at the Kool House.

The Watchmen were one of Canada’s leading lights in the 90s alt-rock revolution. Releasing five full-lengths in just over a decade, the Toronto Can-Rockers found success both at home and abroad. The group have played a handful of reunion gigs over the years and now a new book, Uncovered: the Story of the Watchmen from publishing house Eternal Cavalier Press chronicles their rapid rise and enduring legacy. New Wax reporter Ian Gormely spoke with author Vanessa Azzoli about her book prior to the launch party at the Motel bar at 1235 Queen Street West and a pair of Watchmen reunion gigs at the Horseshoe Tavern at the end of the month.

This week’s artist spotlight is on Toronto punk rockers TeenAnger. New Wax reporter Ian Gormely sat down with lead singer Chris Swimming to discuss the city’s punk and noise-rock scene as well as their latest release, EP LP  out now on the band’s own Telephone Explosion Records.

This week’s artist spotlight is on Vaz.  Born and raised in London England, Vaz moved to Toronto in 2008 after getting his degree in Economics Business and Finance.  In 2012 Vaz quit his banking job to pursue his music career full time.   While playing music since the age of ten Vaz claims that it has always been his passion and his main channel of self expression.  Our reported Zemina Meiji met up with Vaz to discuss his art and career path.

Next Music From Tokyo is an an underground rock showcase that happened at the Rivoli on May 16th and Lee’s Palace on May 17th. It is a showcase featuring 5 bands from Japan. The event is funded and run by one investor who has generously paid for all the bands to come and play and it gives our city’s concert goers a chance to see what Japanese musicians are up to and how they perform their music live.  New wax reporter Debra Shlegel put together this next segment about the Next Music From Tokyo showcase.

Fade Chromatic, a Toronto based indie rock band making waves in the local music scene out with their new release Careless//Madness. The group layers melodic pop vocal hooks with heavy drums, guitar, and bass. Influenced by many area of rock, including punk, indie, and alternative, the band has continued to develop their sound since their 2011 incarnation. Fresh off their May 9th performance at Rancho Relaxo, New Wax Show reporter Sierra Sun caught up with Fade Chromatic to discuss their current EP.

Toronto’s Weaves was formed by a union between singer Jasmyn Burke and Morgan Waters. The band has a unique off kilter, yet catchy, sound that blends a wide variety of genres around Burke’s distinct R&B vocal style. Weaves have recently released a self-titled EP and three highly creative music videos that have been steadily generating internet buzz. New Wax correspondent Thomas Millband recently spoke with Burke.
