Toronto music producer, Matthew Burnett is making some serious noise in the Hip Hop/R&B world. After teaming up with Boi-1da, Matthew has had the opportunity to work with big names like Drake, Jay Z, Lil Wayne, and Eminem. His work with Eminem got him a Grammy nomination and the pleasure of being apart of a diamond selling single! New Wax reporter Kapil Ghai sat down with the music producer to talk about his journey and where he is headed next with his producing career.

Working in the music industry over the last few years, Savvie  has helped establish a number of emerging Canadian artists. With her experience at BC Music and formal musical education she’s now taken the next step in her music career. New Wax reporter Anthony Salemi recently spoke with Savvie about her debut release album, Night Eyes, as well as, what lies ahead for the young artist.

While growing up in GTA, Be embraced her passion for music. After graduating high school in 2007, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in music. While living in L.A., Marquis had the opportunity to work with pop artist Ke$ha and songwriter Robert Alan. After leaving L.A. and heading back home to the GTA, Marquis has had the opportunity to perform at Canada’s Walk of Fame, Wekfest and Honey Jam. In addition to her budding career as an artist, Marquis studied Entertainment Business Management at Metalworks Institute. New Wax reporter Stacy McLean caught up with the multi-faceted artist to go in-depth about her experiences, and find out what’s next.

Legendary Jazz bassist Dave Holland recently spent a week at York as an artist in residents, offering workshops to our students in the jazz program. His solo career has been illustrious, with his ‘Live At Birdland’ album often being called the greatest jazz recording of the 21st century by fans and critics. Jazz singer and New Wax reporter Natasha Roldán recently sat down with the humble legend to learn more about what drives his life and art.

Daniel Worthy and Ah-kilo of Most High Productions, are an up and coming music production duo hailing from Toronto and are determined to become a household name within the hip hop world. New Wax Reporter Kapil Ghai had the opportunity to sit down with the duo to talk about their humble beginnings and recent successes, that includes producing “Star67” with hip hop heavyweight Drake on his latest mixtape entitled “If you’re reading this its too late.”

Colombian born Toronto jazz musician Natasha Roldan is vocally influenced by traditional Latin American and European music. She was live in studio performing “No Apologies”, “Love Swing”, and “Regret” off her debut EP, No Apologies. After her set, Roldán sat down with New Wax for an exclusive interview to discuss the release of the debut EP and her development as a jazz singer in the city.

New Wax reporter Kevin Akwamuzor interviews Toronto artist E-Carter, A local Toronto rapper who grew up in the Caribbean and has a dream to be in the major leagues. E carter is an artist who is willing to go above and beyond for the sake of music. He strongly believes in the power music has to influence others and wishes to make music that will last for ages.

 New Wax reporter Tarick Glancy spoke with singer Moses Musiq, whose R&B songs are influenced by the various styles he listened to growing up in the nineties. Moses has collaborated with many local artists in the hip-hop and reggae scenes, and performed at numerous events and venues around the city.

 Over the years Montreal has been known for it’s intense punk scene and this week’s artist spotlight is on Montreal four piece The East End Radicals. Simply put, this band is realistic. Their music isn’t just “mindless entertainment” as they would put it. Their goal is to craft songs engaging the listener, while striking the chord of social justice. New wax reporter Izabella Sokolowska had the opportunity to sit down with Scott McLeod of the band and further delve into their psyche.

Our very own Tarick Glancy caught up with Kes Defenthaller from “Kes the Band,” of one of the hottest soca groups to come out of Trinidad and Tobago. This year Kes The Band celebrates ten years in the soca game and have many hit songs over their career. The band was recently in Toronto, playing the very last show at the Kool House.
