The Toronto based songstress, Megan Bonnell, traces her roots to rural Ontario, where she grew up surrounded by forests and fields. At the mere age of four years old, Bonnell began teaching herself piano and has been making music ever since.

In the fall of two thousand and thirteen, Bonnell released her debut LP Hunt and Chase which showcases sonic textures and lyrical themes that greatly belie her young age. Bonnell spoke with New Wax Show reporter Sierra Sun ahead of her gig this Saturday at the Drake Hotel.

The title change has had no affect on the popularity of the band who just signed an American record deal with SideOneDummy. Akash Bansal recently chatted with lead singer Stefan Babcock about their music and ever-growing popularity ahead of their headlining gig at the Garrison Friday night.

This week’s artist spotlight is on Language Arts, the musical nom de plume of Kristen Cudmore. A native of Nova Scotia, Cudmore recently relocated from Vancouver to Toronto where she assembled a new band and recorded her forthcoming new album, Wonderkind, out in February.  Cudmore spoke with New Wax Show reporter Ian Gormely about the new record and how changes in her life affected her new songs.

With such prominence in the Canadian music scene, it’s no surprise that Molly Rankin has decided to follow in the footsteps of her family. After releasing a solo debut, Molly jumped on board a new project with some talented Canadian artists, including former Two Hours Traffic member, Alec O’Hanley, to start Alvvays. New Wax reporter Ian Gormely recently sat down with Rankin to discuss the band’s formation, recording with Chad VanGaalen and their up-coming album.

Adelaide Hall is one of Toronto’s newest music venues. Just last Wednesday the venue christened its stage by playing host to its first ever hip-hop show with a performance from the legendary Chali 2na. New Wax Correspondent John Fernandez caught up with the Jurassic 5 member after the show to discuss his views on the city of Toronto and its budding hip-hop scene.
